Slide 1 - Micro Jig presents: How to safely cut a notch on a wood panel on a table saw. This slideshow demonstrates how to use two GRR-Rippers to cut a clean notch safely from a wood panel. The “show” side of the stock is labeled A. The “non-show” side is labeled B. We need to control the waste piece from kickback once it becomes free and traped between the fence and the saw blade.
Our table saw outfitted the MJ Splitter Steel Pro for added safety.

Slide 2Only two cuts are needed. After drawing your cut lines, make the first crosscut with Side A up. Here the cross cut has already been made.
-
Slide 3Side B (Non-show Side) shows the under cut extending too far. This is why you make the cut with side B down.
-
Slide 4When you are making the second cut for the notch, you use two GRR-Rippers. One in the front to hold down both the notch section and the large panel and the other GRR-Ripper in the rear to securely push the panel into the saw blade. IMPORTANT: Do NOT use just one GRR-Ripper to make this cut.
-
Slide 5Hold the GRR-Rippers by the “back corner” of the handle and feed the panel into the saw blade maintaining contact against the rip fence and balance downward pressure. Make this cut with Side A facing up.

Slide 7Notice that the over cut is on the Non-show side B.
